How to Clean a Mattress at Home

The best way to clean a mattress is extraction: dry vacuum first, then a brief injection of solution followed immediately by strong suction — never “pour and scrub.” This lifts dust, skin cells and stain residue from the top fabric without opening up the mattress. In Vilnius you can rent a Kärcher Puzzi 10/1 for 15 €/day or book our cleaning service — call 062 110 999.

What is the problem?

A damp cloth or baking soda without suction just pushes dirt deeper into the fibres, and hot air used too close can damage the top fabric. Without the right method, results rarely last and odour tends to come back.

The solution

Strip the bedding, dry vacuum, then clean with the Puzzi 10/1 using dosed chemistry (1 €/pc), slow overlapping passes and strong suction. Ventilate 6–12 hours before making the bed again. Rental 15 €/day, weekend 25 €, deposit 50 €; pickup Šumsko g. 308, Vilnius, delivery from 12 €.

How does it work?

  1. Strip the bedding and, if possible, the waterproof cover.
  2. Dry vacuum the whole surface, especially seams and edges.
  3. Check the care label — some mattresses aren't suited to wet cleaning.
  4. Call 062 110 999: tell us the size and whether there are stains.
  5. Choose rental 15 €/day or our service; chemistry 1 €/pc.
  6. Work in overlapping passes with a narrow tool, extracting the solution immediately.
  7. Don't soak the core — a few drier passes beat one wet one.

Why Puzzis.lt?

Why surface cleaning doesn't solve the problem

A mattress absorbs skin cells, sweat and dust every day, far deeper than it looks. Dry vacuuming reduces surface dust, but real cleanliness only comes from extraction — solution injected and immediately drawn back out with the soil.

A cycle every 12–18 months is usually enough; more often with kids or pets. This is household hygiene, not medical disinfection — for health concerns, please consult a specialist.

Extraction without soaking

Use a narrow tool made for soft surfaces — it controls moisture better than a wide floor nozzle. Work in slow, overlapping passes from the head end toward the foot: the slower you pull the tool, the more solution the machine can pull back out.

Dose the chemistry exactly as instructed (1 €/pc) — more foam doesn't mean a cleaner result, only a sticky residue that attracts dust later. We never open the core (springs or foam) or pour water directly into the structure.

Drying and when to remake the bed

After cleaning, the mattress should feel completely dry to the touch — usually 6–12 hours with good airflow, sometimes longer for thicker models. Don't use a hot air blower up close, and don't cover it with plastic to “speed things up.”

Judge the result — smell and stain appearance — only on fully dry fabric, since damp fabric looks and smells different.
