How to Remove Odour from a Mattress

Mattress odour is removed by extracting its carriers from the fabric, not by spraying air freshener: dry vacuum, then extraction with the Puzzi 10/1, then full drying. A masking spray brings the problem back within a day. In Vilnius — rental 15 €/day or service; 062 110 999.

What is the problem?

Air freshener covers the smell while organic residue stays in the fibres and reactivates with moisture or warmth. Damp wiping without suction just pushes it deeper.

The solution

Stop masking, ventilate, then extract with dosed chemistry (1 €/pc) over a wider area than the “suspect” zone. Judge the result only on a dry mattress. Rental 15 €/day, 25 €, 50 €; Šumsko g. 308, Vilnius, from 12 €.

How does it work?

  1. Stop using fresheners for at least a day — you need the real smell as a baseline.
  2. Air the room, strip the bedding, dry vacuum.
  3. Work out whether the smell is local (head/middle) or across the whole surface.
  4. Call 062 110 999 and describe the type of smell (sweat, damp, urine, pet).
  5. Choose rental or service; chemistry 1 €/pc.
  6. Extract a wider area than the suspected zone, finishing with strong suction.
  7. Dry completely before judging the result.

Why Puzzis.lt?

Why odour comes back even after airing

Skin oils, sweat and residual liquids stay in the fibres as they dry, and body heat or humidity “wake them up” again. That's why ventilation alone rarely gives a lasting result if the source stays in the fabric.

Sprays add their own scent, which makes it hard to judge honestly whether cleaning actually worked. Before starting extraction it's best to have fabric with no fresheners on it, so you can see the real result afterwards.

Extraction as the main tool

The Puzzi 10/1 dissolves and immediately extracts odour carriers from the top layer. The key is not to soak it — a wet core smells even stronger — so dose the chemistry exactly as instructed.

After a cycle, don't rush to use a freshener — wait until the fabric is fully dry before deciding whether a second pass is needed. Sweat often responds to a single thorough cycle; older or biological odours can need two.

When the source isn't the mattress itself

Before blaming the mattress alone, check whether the smell also comes from a rug, curtains, or a generally damp room — cleaning helps the symptom but not a ventilation or humidity issue.

If the smell hasn't changed after two extraction cycles, the source is probably elsewhere — we'll discuss that honestly by phone 062 110 999, without empty promises about a “magic” chemical.
